Why We Have a Dress Code


At Dance AS, our dress code promotes safety, professionalism, and proper technique while creating a unified classroom environment where every dancer can focus on learning and growing.

Students are expected to arrive dressed and ready for class.


 

Classical Dress Code


Ballet & Contemporary

Our Ballet and Contemporary programs emphasize proper alignment, technique, and artistry. Traditional dance attire allows instructors to clearly see body placement and movement.

Convertible tights in either:

  • Pink
  • Flesh tone (matching the dancer's skin tone)

Ballet

  • Canvas split-sole ballet shoes
  • Pink or flesh tone (to match tights)

Contemporary

  • Flesh-tone turners

Hair

Ballet

  • Hair must be secured neatly in a bun.
  • The bun should remain in place throughout class.
  • Please use a hair tie, bobby pins, and a hair net as needed.

Contemporary

  • Hair must be pulled neatly and securely away from the face.
  • Appropriate styles include a ponytail, braids, bun, or a similar secure style.

Ballet Skirt

Approved So Danca Wave Pull-On Skirts:

  • SL216
  • SL217

Skirts should match the dancer's assigned class color and are primarily worn for performances and instructor-approved class days.

Optional Bottom Layer

  • Black Dance AS compression shorts or leggings
  • Black compression shorts or leggings

Levels 5 and Below

  • Shorts must be worn over tights.


Intermediate/Advanced

  • Mid-length shorts may be worn without tights.

Top

  • Dance AS Class Wear


Bottoms

  • Black convertible tights

Shoes

Ballet

  • Black canvas split-sole ballet shoes


Contemporary

Studio Dress Code

Jazz • Tap • Hip Hop

Our Studio Dress Code provides dancers with a polished, unified look while allowing freedom of movement across multiple dance styles.

Girls

Top — Choose One

  • Dance AS Class Wear
  • Plain fitted black leotard
  • Plain fitted black tank

Bottoms — Choose One

  • Black Dance AS compression shorts or leggings
  • Black compression shorts or leggings

Shoes

Jazz

  • Black split-sole jazz shoes

Tap

  • Black Oxford-style tap shoes


Hip Hop

  • Black Converse-style sneakers for studio use only


Hair

·      Hair must be pulled neatly and securely away from the face in a ponytail, braids, bun, or a similar style. The hairstyle should remain secure throughout class.

  • No dangling earrings
  • No watches
  • No hats
  • Hair must be secured away from the face.
  • Please label all shoes, dance bags, and water bottles with your dancer's name.
